The SAE International Automotive Engineering June 2018 article titled Steeling for Reduced Mass and Higher Strength  discusses 3rd generation Advanced-Ultra High Strength Steel alloys and “Hybrid Steel” solutions such as MSC Smart Steel® and the impact they are having on the light-weighting of the auto industry and specifically the newest trends in light weight aluminum.

In the article, Matt Murphy, VP of Engineered Solutions at MSC’s Canton, MI Application Research Center discusses how MSC Smart Steel was leveraged from it Quiet Steel line for body-in-white applications, that will not only reduce weight, but allow those applications to be welded without the need for special welding equipment.
