Meet Our Leadership Team

Patrick Murley

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Murley has been the Chief Executive Officer of Material Sciences Corporation since May of 2010, when it acquired the Company’s four divisions from Northern Steel Group (a division of Severstal). Mr. Murley had been the CEO of Northern Steel Group since November 2008 and was previously the Vice President of Strategy and Business Development.

Prior to working at Severstal, Mr. Murley spent twenty years at Worthington Steel Company in various capacities, serving as Vice President of Operations for his last six years with the company.

Mr. Murley has a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from Ohio State University and a Masters of Business Administration from University of Michigan.

Michael Noble

Chief Commercial Officer

Mr. Noble leads Material Sciences Corporation Commercial activities with a mandate to accelerate growth from new business development, focus on commercial impact, increase brand value and work with our strategic partners to open up new channels and enhance business partner relationships.

Mr. Noble was appointed Chief Commercial Officer of Material Sciences Corporation in February, 2011. Previously, he served as President of Premier Resource Group (PRG) which he cofounded in 2001 with William Stapleton.

Prior to launching PRG, Mr. Noble spent sixteen years with Interstate Steel Company in several positions, including senior management roles in Sales and Purchasing. Mr. Noble began his career in the steel industry at National Steel Corporation in the Production and Inventory Control departments.

Mr. Noble is a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Associate of Science in Marketing.

James Todd

Chief Financial Officer

James Todd served as the Director of Finance for Material Sciences Corporation prior to becoming Chief Financial Officer in 2014. He has been with the company since 2007.

Prior to joining Material Sciences Corporation, James spent time serving as Director of Internal Audit for the American Medical Association and had successfully started and sold a company that worked with Chicagoland municipalities in the processing and collection of parking tickets. He enjoys the challenges and dynamics of the steel industry and working with staff and other management team members to improve reporting and operational efficiencies.

James earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and a Masters of Business Administration from DePaul University.

James is a resident of Northwest Indiana for the past 18 years.

Matt Murphy

Vice President, Engineered Solutions

Mr. Murphy has served as Vice President, Sales and Marketing of Material Sciences Corporation (MSC) since May 2013. Before this, Mr. Murphy held a number of positions with MSC, including Vice President, General Manager of Asia from December 2009 to May 2013, Vice President Global Transportation Sales & Marketing from March 2008 to December 2009, Plant Manager at the MSC Walbridge Coatings facility from May 2007 to March 2008, Director of Automotive Sales & Marketing from March 2005 to May 2007, Marketing Manager of Automotive Accounts from December 2002 to March 2005 and Strategic Account Manager from April 2001 to December 2002.

Prior to joining MSC, Mr. Murphy held positions in manufacturing, sales and marketing with General Motors, AlliedSignal Inc. and GW Plastics, Inc. Mr. Murphy has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from GMI Engineering & Management Institute and a Masters in Business Administration from Michigan State University.

Steve Tatalovich

Sr. Vice President of Operations

Prior to assuming his current position, Steve served as ECT’s President from 2010 to 2014, General Manager from 2004 to 2010, Operations Manager from 2001 to 2004, and Production Manager from 1998 to 2001.

Steve studied Aviation/Airway Management and Operations at Vincennes University.

Steve values time spent with his wife and three children. In his free-time, he also enjoys aviation, snowmobiling, and other outdoor recreation.

Mike Cocanig

Vice President & General Manager, Elk Grove Village

Mr. Cocanig’s current responsibilities for Material Sciences Corporation (MSC) are operating the Elk Grove Village manufacturing plant. He was promoted to VP/GM of the plant in March 2014. Over his 25 year career at MSC, Mr. Cocanig has held several positions, including Operations Manager from 1998 to 2005, Plant Manager from 2005 to 2009 and VP of Sales from 2009 to 2014.

Mr. Cocanig has earned the respect of his peers and employees by empowering each employee and providing strong leadership and communication. Mr. Cocanig is a member of the Company Leadership Team.

Bill Stapleton

Sr. Vice President of Sales, Elk Grove Village

As President, Mr. Stapleton is responsible for all Commercial and Financial activities of Premier Resource Group, focusing on growing value-added sales, inventory management and increasing company profits.

Prior to his appointment as President in 2011, Mr. Stapleton served as Executive Vice President for Premier Resource Group, which he co-founded with Michael Noble in 2001. Previously, Mr. Stapleton spent three years as the Pre-paint Product Manager for Interstate Steel. Mr. Stapleton began his career with Chicago Finished Metals where he held a variety of Sales and Senior Management positions.

Mr. Stapleton is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. William and his wife, Stephanie, live in Naperville, Illinois with their three children Jessica, Jacob and Olivia.

Kevin McCallum

President, MSC Toronto

Mr. McCallum has been President/CEO of Continuous Colour Coat Limited – Metal Koting (acquired by Material Sciences Corporation in 2015) since 2010 and previously held the positions of Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Manufacturing.

Prior to joining Metal Koting in 2000, Mr. McCallum spent fourteen years with the Steel Company of Canada (Stelco) in various technical and commercial capacities.

Mr. McCallum is a Professional Engineer and graduate of McMaster University in Mechanical Engineering.
